Lock By Lock: Ray Sax Illustrates the Canal
February 10 - May 12
Lock By Lock: Ray Sax Illustrates the Canal opens on Friday, February 10 in the second-floor gallery of the Erie Canal Museum, 318 Erie Boulevard East, Syracuse. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, February 16 from 5-7PM.
This exhibition features pen and ink drawings of all 57 locks in the New York State Canal System by commercial artist Raymond Sax of North Syracuse, New York. For four years after he retired, Mr. Sax visited and illustrated every lock in the system, which includes the Erie, Champlain, Oswego and Seneca-Cayuga canals. These drawings were last exhibited in 2012, and reflect the beauty and engineering of the state’s inland waterways. The exhibition is open daily through May 13.
