Thanks to the Onondaga Historical Association, the Erie Canal Museum now enjoys a presence at Destiny USA. Under the guise of Gift Gallery-Museum Store, OHA has just opened a kiosk on the 2nd floor of the new addition.

They have generously offered us the opportunity to supply a selection of ECM merchandise and souvenirs from our own Museum Shop to feature alongside their own at the mall.

The Erie Canal Museum greatly appreciates this opportunity of partnership and collaboration.

Come celebrate the history of the Erie Canal and discover a new activity every week that’s fun for the whole family! As an exciting new addition to our educational programming, the Erie Canal Museum will be hosting Monday Fundays at the Museum on Monday afternoons this summer. Monday Fundays are made possible by the generous funding and support of M&T Bank.

Monday Fundays will be held every Monday from July 8 through August 26 at 1 pm. These events cost $5/child for one Funday and $30/child for all eight Fundays, with a discounted rate for museum members. Tickets will be available online and at the door. Children who attend all eight Fundays will receive a special surprise!

Join us for a series of activities, crafts, and demonstrations that capture the culture of the Erie Canal, the everyday lives of the people who lived, traveled, and worked along it, and the businesses that blossomed in Syracuse because of it. Activities will include a live demonstration by a local tinsmith, ghost stories, paint your own Syracuse China, and a scavenger hunt through the museum. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult to participate in these fun activities.

Monday Fundays are part of the new summer programming for families offered by the Erie Canal Museum. These events are designed to introduce local families to the museum and its resources and to interest children in history and the Erie Canal through fun, hands-on activities. New events and activities every week will offer children the chance to learn about and connect with their community, its culture, and its past while having fun with their families.

Please contact education_intern@eriecanalmuseum.org with any questions.

This summer we are reaching out to our supporters and asking, “Are you a member?” If not, you can become a member here.

Membership provides a base we can rely on year after year to support our mission to champion an appreciation and understanding of Erie Canal history through educational programming and to promote an awareness of the Canal’s transforming effects on the past, present and future. We rely on the generosity of individuals for over 33% of our yearly funding.
Besides the satisfaction of knowing that you are supporting the Museum’s exhibits, programs and educational outreach, there are many tangible benefits to becoming a member of the Erie Canal Museum:

10% off in the Museum Store (online too!)

Discount on all Museum sponsored trips and programs

Invitation to Members Only events (next event on June 13)

Reciprocal membership in the Council of American Maritime Museums, which provides free admission and additional benefits at over ninety member museums (Canaller and above only)

Family Pass to the annual Gingerbread Gallery

In addition, if you become a member during the Summer Membership Drive you will receive:

$10 coupon for select Hanover Square restaurants

Invitation to the New Member Brunch and Tour on September 21

Chance to win a Uniquely Central New York Basket with goodies provided by Small Potatoes (valued at $150)

In 2012, one of the many programs supported through membership dues was a Brownie Girl Scout overnight, during which we took Scouts on a journey to explore the Wonders of Water. The Scouts made their own canal boats, learned about the history of Central New York, and had a tea party with Girl Scout founder, Juliette Gordon Low, before having the rare opportunity to spend the night in the 1850 Syracuse Weighlock Building. With your support, we look forward to offering more programs like the Brownie Girl Scout overnight.

Thank you so much for your consideration. We are passionate about what we do, and it is very gratifying to know that you support the Erie Canal Museum’s mission to preserve our proud Erie Canal heritage.

The project’s goal is to customize the artful signage so that it reflects the distinctive character, history, personality and aesthetics of Baldwinsville. Our aim is to galvanize the village and surrounding area with a program that involves local youth as well as older adults in researching the region’s folklore and history. The resulting program will tangibly contribute to the revitalization of this waterfront town as a tourist and local entertainment mecca.

We are excited to be working on this project with our friends at City Lore and the Village of Baldwinsville, as well as, Lock 49, the designers our wonderful website, and Brendan Rose, former Syracuse Public Artist in Residence.
