ArtsWeek Events at the Museum
Syracuse ArtsWeek is July 25-31, and the Museum is celebrating with two great events! At 12 p.m. Thursday, July 28, author Jack Kelly is here to talk about his new book, Heaven’s Ditch: God, Gold, and Murder on the Erie Canal. Kelly discusses the Canal’s construction and some of the historic events that took place on the waterway, taking the audience to a time when the Canal was one of the most vibrant, creative and trend-setting parts of the country. The program includes a question-and-answer session.
From 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Friday and Saturday, we invite children to help create artwork for the windows of the Nathan Roberts, the replica canal boat on our grounds. Draw and color pictures of people, animals and things that were on canal boats in the 19th century, and we will display them in the boat’s windows. Drawing paper and other material are supplied, and the program takes place outside if weather permits.
Both events are free and open to the public. We hope to see you!
