Virtual Heritage Area Walking Tour

Take a walk with us on the Erie Canal and through the downtown Syracuse heritage area! The Erie Canal Museum presents guided walking tours of historic downtown Syracuse on a regular basis beginning Saturday, May 19. This tour follows the path of the 19th century Erie Canal, a man-made waterway that fueled the economic and social development of New York State and the country. The tour begins at the Erie Canal Museum, takes participants through Clinton and Hanover Squares, and ends back at the Museum. Examine how the waterway shaped this Upstate New York community, and discover how the neighborhood has changed since the days when the Canal ran right through the heart of the city.

Additional tours are scheduled for June 24 at 12:00 p.m., and other dates through the summer This walking tour is free for Erie Canal Museum members and $10 for the general public. Members are asked to call (315) 471-0593, extension 12, to reserve a  space.
