Downtown Syracuse Erie Canal Walking Tour

October 9 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

$10
Downtown Syracuse Heritage Area Walking Tour

Learn about the Erie Canal in Syracuse through this popular guided tour.

Join the Erie Canal Museum for a guided walking tour of historic downtown Syracuse on Saturday, September 19 at 10 a.m.

The tour begins at the corner of Erie Boulevard East and Montgomery Street near the Museum garden. A trained docent leads you along the route of the 19th century Canal to Clinton Square, discussing the square’s Canal history and some of the city’s most important sites. The walk continues through Hanover Square, and ends back at the Museum and the 1850 National Register Weighlock Building. You will learn how the Erie Canal shaped all aspects of the community, and see how the neighborhood has changed since the days when the waterway was its centerpiece.

The program is free for Erie Canal Museum members and children aged 17 and under, and $10 for the general public. The tour is limited to 10 people, and all guests must wear face coverings for the duration of the program. All guests must purchase tickets and make reservations through the Shop page of our website. If you are a Museum member, please email natalie@eriecanalmuseum.org or phone 315-471-0593, ext. 10 to receive a discount code.

You can park for free in the lot across the street under routes 81 and 690.

Additional walking tours of downtown Syracuse will take place on Thursdays and Saturdays through September. Be sure to check this website and our Facebook page for dates and times.

We look forward to seeing you for this interesting and insightful program!
