Infrastructure Tours: Syracuse
August 20, 2022 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

The Weighlock Building Tours at the Erie Canal Museum in Syracuse, NY will begin at 11 AM and 1 PM on Saturday, August 20. Meet in the Museum’s lobby. You can use the following address in your GPS to find the Museum: 318 Erie Blvd E, Syracuse, NY 13202. Park information is available here.
Join us for an exciting series of infrastructure tours at sites throughout the Erie Canalway system. See how boats navigate elevation changes with still-operational mechanical lock chambers. Tour historic powerhouses once used to provide electricity to canal equipment and surrounding communities. Experience the only surviving Weighlock Building in the world or step through centuries-old remnants of previous canals. A trained tour guide leads you through each site, telling stories about life on the canal and providing information about the equipment used to maintain an engineering marvel. You will learn how the Erie Canal transformed Upstate New York into what it is today.
Infrastructure Tours are a collaboration with the New York State Canal Corporation and at part of the Erie Canal Museum’s Infrastructure of Empire project.
