Lunchtime Lecture- Colors on the Water: Artists’ Depictions of the NYS Canals, 1825 to 1900

August 17, 2023 @ 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

From John Henry Hopkins’ 1825 watercolors of his trip on the Erie Canal, to the sketches of the “Tile Club” from 1877,  to E. Lamson Henry and Augusta Brown on the Champlain Canal, the waterways of New York were a great attraction for a true “en plein air” experience. From early packet boat rides to the turn-of-the-twentieth-century’s nostalgic excursions, this lecture discusses the schools of art and artists who captured renderings of the wondrous waterways on canvas or sketchbooks. This talk will be presented by Pamela Vittorio.

This talk will be presented both in-person and via Zoom. Attendance is FREE with a recommended $10 donation. You can register here: https://eriecanalmuseum.org/store/product/lecture/
