Pathway of Resistance walking tour looks at African-American experiences in Erie Canal corridor
We are pleased to add another date to our new Pathway of Resistance guided walking tour! During this free Erie Canal Museum program, we examine the African-American experience on and along the banks of the Erie Canal, from its beginnings to the present day. We will present this in-person program on Saturday, October 3 at 1 p.m. Space is limited to protect everyone’s safety, so please register in advance at this web page.
While African-American history is rarely pleasant, slavery, racism, and resistance are critical to understanding our society today. Because we believe that the issues presented in this tour are very important, the program is free of charge. We do, however, encourage a donation of $10 per person.
The Pathway of Resistance tour begins at the corner of Montgomery Street and Erie Boulevard in downtown Syracuse. This is just outside the Museum garden. All guests are required to wear face coverings for the duration of the program. Free parking spots are available in the lot across from the Museum, under routes 81 and 690.
For more information, email outreach@eriecanalmuseum.org. We look forward to seeing you for this important program.
The Erie Canal Museum is partially funded by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
