Syracuse Stroll with the Educator

March 3 @ 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM

Free
Syracuse Stroll with the Museum Educator

Take a stroll through downtown Syracuse, New York with Erie Canal Museum Educator Derrick Pratt to learn more about the history of the city founded on the historic waterway, get some exercise, and even earn mileage toward goals in the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor’s Canalway Challenge! Syracuse Strolls take place on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m.-9 a.m. beginning Monday, March 2. They are free and open to the public, and everyone is welcome to participate.

The walk begins at the Museum’s front entrance, 318 Erie Boulevard East, and ends at Creekside Commons on West Water Street. You will walk along the route of the original Erie Canal, which opened for navigation in Syracuse 200 years ago. You will learn more about downtown’s major Canal structures and the historic landmarks whose construction was influenced by the waterway.

Walking for just 30 minutes can reduce the risk of heart disease, burn calories, boost your immune system, improve your mood, and ease joint pain. Come along on a Syracuse Stroll for good health and to learn about the Erie Canal’s history in our community. It’s a great way to start the day. We look forward to seeing you!

The Erie Canal Museum is partially funded by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
