Volunteer Docent Training Session
February 3, 2020 @ 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM
Free
We’re inviting current docents, Canal and history lovers, and everyone who likes interacting with people to attend a free training session for volunteer docents at the Erie Canal Museum on Monday, February 3 from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m.
Docents, also known as tour guides, take groups through the Museum, explaining key information about the Erie Canal and the historic Weighlock Building. Museum Educator Derrick Pratt will provide background on the Erie Canal and the Museum, complete information about conducting a tour, a docent manual, and details on our tours and volunteering at the Museum in downtown Syracuse.
No prior experience is necessary. Coffee and refreshments will be served. Please complete and submit a volunteer application form before signing up for the training. You can find the form at https://eriecanalmuseum.org/join-give/volunteer/. Email your form to derrick@eriecanalmuseum.org, mail it to the Museum, 318 Erie Boulevard East, Syracuse, NY 13202, or drop it off.
Parking is available in paid lots and at meters on the street, and a number of free Museum-designated spots are available in the lot under routes 81 and 690. We’re looking forward to this training session, and hope you will join us!
The Erie Canal Museum is partially funded by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
