Walking Tour of Historic Downtown Syracuse

July 19, 2018 @ 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

$10
Guided walking tour of downtown Syracuse looks at the Erie Canal's history and impact on the city.

Take a walk with us on the Erie Canal and through the downtown Syracuse heritage area! The Erie Canal Museum presents guided walking tours of historic downtown Syracuse on a regular basis throughout the summer. This tour follows the route of the 19th century Erie Canal, a man-made waterway that was the engineering marvel of its time. The tour begins at the Erie Canal Museum, takes participants through Clinton and Hanover Squares, and ends back at the Museum. Examine how the waterway fueled the economic and social development of New York State and the country, how it shaped this Upstate New York community, and discover how the neighborhood has changed since the days when the Canal ran right through the heart of the city.

Additional tours are scheduled for July 27 at 11:00 a.m. and other dates through the summer This walking tour is free for Erie Canal Museum members and $10 for the general public. Members are asked to call (315) 471-0593, extension 12, to reserve a  space.

Free parking is available in Museum-designated spots in the lot across the street under routes 81 and 690. Make your reservation today!
