Experience a different Erie Canal historic site on the weekends as part of this family friendly guided tour series, then enjoy some ice cream on us!

On Saturdays at 11 AM throughout the summer, an hour-long guided tour, either by bike or by foot depending on location, will take guests along the new Empire State Trail while also highlighting that regions’ unique Canal history. Following the tour, join us and a local ice cream shop where you can purchase a sweet treat for yourself. Participate once at your favorite local spot or try to complete the entire statewide circuit. Please register in advance to participate. Registration is $5 for adults and FREE for children under 12.

July 10 at 11:00 AM – Schoharie Crossing | Join the Erie Canal Museum at the Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site for this bike tour, where you will see the site’s historic aqueduct and several locks as well as stop at Karen’s Produce and Ice Cream.

July 31 at 11:00 AM – Syracuse | Join us at the Erie Canal Museum for a special family-friendly walking tour of downtown Syracuse. This hour-long tour will explore the story of the Erie Canal in the heart of Syracuse and include a stop for ice cream.

August 21 at 11:00 AM – Lockport | Join the Erie Canal Museum at Lockport’s Erie Canal Discovery Center for a narrated walking tour of the Erie Canal Flight of Five Locks. This hour-long tour will describe the construction of the Flight of Five. Following the tour you will have the chance to witness a lock demonstration and stop for ice cream.
