Cones and Canals

Join us for a series of walking and cycling tours that will be fun for the whole family as you learn about different canal communities’ rich history and enjoy some ice cream from a local shop!
This series will take place biweekly throughout the summer.  Please register in advance to participate by clicking on a specific date. Registration is $5 for adults and free for children 12 years or younger.

Past Programs

July 10 at 11:00 AM – Schoharie Crossing Join the Erie Canal Museum at the Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site for this tour, which includes a stop at Kim’s Produce and Ice Cream.

July 31 at 11:00 AM – Syracuse Join the Erie Canal Museum for a special, family-friendly walking tour of downtown Syracuse. This hour-long tour will explore the story of the Erie Canal in the heart of Syracuse and include a stop for ice cream.  

August 21 at 10:00 AM – Lockport Join the Erie Canal Museum in Lockport at the Lockport Locks Heritage District for a narrated walking tour of the Erie Canal Flight of Five Locks. This hour-long tour will describe the construction of the Flight of Five. Following the tour you will have the chance to witness a lock demonstration and stop for ice cream.
