The tour begins at the entrance to the Erie Canal Museum. A trained docent leads you along the route of the 19th century Canal to Clinton Square, discussing the square’s Canal history and some of the city’s most important sites. The walk continues through Hanover Square, and ends back at the Museum and the 1850 National Register Weighlock Building. You will learn how the Erie Canal shaped all aspects of the community, and see how the neighborhood has changed since the days when the waterway was its centerpiece.
Space is limited, so please try to reserve a space in advance. Registration is free, but we have a $10 suggested donation. These tours occur on Thursdays and Saturdays at 10:30am and 1pm, alternating.

On the Canals Infrastructure Tours – Lock E24 Baldwinsville
Included in our summer Infrastructure Tours program, supported by On the Canals, we are offering tours of Lock E24 in Baldwinsville. These free tours will focus on the history of Baldwinsville before the canal, the Seneca river, the infrastructure of the lock and the barge canal, and social history. These hour-long tours will occur on Saturdays at 11am and 1pm this summer, on July 1st, July 29th, and August 26th. Join us!
On the Canals Infrastrcutre Tours – Syracuse 1850 Weighlock Building
Join us for special behind-the-scenes infrastructure tours of the 1850 Weighlock Building. This free tour, made possible by On the Canals, will highlight the history of the Weighlock Building, focusing on infrastructure, engineering, and history of the building and the people who worked there throughout the years. These hour-long tours will occur at 11am and 1pm on Saturdays this summer, on June 17th, July 22nd, and August 12th.

Join the Erie Canal Museum for an hour-long historical walking tour in Baldwinsville, NY. This tour will begin at the Baldwin Canal Park and end with a beer at WT Brewing Co.
