The Winifred & De Villo Sloan, Jr., Charitable Fund has awarded a grant of $5,000 to the Erie Canal Museum of Syracuse, New York, to provide support for the artist-in-residence program.
“The Erie Canal is a defining part of New York’s history,” said De Villo Sloan III, the funds director. “The Erie Canal Museum is exactly the kind of organization – with roots in the past and a vision for the future – the Sloan Charitable Fund seeks to support. The fact that we will also support working artists is an added bonus.”
“We are grateful for this support from the Sloan Charitable Fund,” said Erie Canal Museum Executive Director Natalie Stetson. “This grant will allow the 2023 Erie Canal Artist-in-Residence, Matthew López-Jensen, to develop a new way to share his art with the public.”
The Winifred & De Villo Sloan, Jr. Charitable fund is held and administered by Vanguard Charitable. Dr. De Villo Sloan Jr., was born in 1926 and raised in Elbridge, New York. He met Winifred Philben Sloan in college following World War II. They married and became the parents of one son. During their 64-year marriage, they lived in Elbridge, and had distinguished careers in education. Their charitable fund serves the arts and education with an emphasis on Central New York.
